The basic option chain provides strike prices and prices. However, it is not useful to make judgements. Before F&O stock results you will see the additional columns are very useful. Let’s look at how each of these columns help.
What Does a Basic Chain Show?
The basic option chain shows strike prices, last price and sometimes volume. It shows you the cost of a contract but doesn’t explain why, or if the price is fair. It can be risky to make a decision based on this.
What Does an Advanced Chain Add?
Each extra column should earn its place. Here is a comparison.
| Extra column | What it shows | Trade decision it changes |
| Open interest change | New positions being added or closed | Trust a price move or doubt it |
| IV and IVR | How expensive options are | Buy premium or step aside |
| Greeks | Sensitivity to price and time | Pick the strike and expiry |
| PCR and Max Pain | Overall mood and key levels | Set targets and stops |
A good trading app will show all this information in one place. The option chain on HDFC Sky will show you the ATM, strike prices in yellow if they are in the money and up to 30 strike prices. It also shows PCR, Max Pain, change in OI and IVR scan over the last year.
How Does OI Change Alter a Trade?
If a stock gaps up 3%, the basic option chain will show you the new price. However, adding in change in OI will show you if new positions are being opened or old ones closed. If OI is increasing and price is increasing this shows real interest. If OI is decreasing then the move may not last. This can help you avoid chasing.
Why Do IV and Greeks Matter?
Looking at volatility. IV (Implied Volatility) shows how much the market thinks the stock will move in the next few days. Usually it will be high before F&O stock results and then fall. This can cause problems for option buyers even if direction is correct. Looking at IVR scan can help you see if options are cheap or expensive. Adding Greeks will help further. Delta shows how much the premium will move with the stock and Theta shows how much you are losing each day due to time.
How Do You Use the Result Calendar?
On the calendar on HDFC Sky it shows you the company name, symbol, security code and result date. You can also filter by date range or company name. For example, LIC will have a result on 5 Nov 2026 and Tata Power on 11 Nov 2026. Once you have noted the dates you can go to the option chain. If IV is already high you may want to think twice about buying. If you have a position open, decide whether to reduce your size before the date.
Can You Order From the Chain?
Yes, HDFC Sky will connect the option chain to the Strategy Builder and basket. You can place single click orders. Before choosing a trading app try using this flow with 1 lot and include a stop loss.
Which Chain Is the Better Option?
The basic option chain will get you in but the advanced one will help you make a decision. For most traders, HDFC Sky will be the best choice as it includes change in OI, IV, Greeks and result calendar. This is general information only and should not be taken as investment advice.
